Wide-ranging Activities

Special School

Each child at the Special School is supported through an Individualized Education Program (IEP), tailored to their needs and potential. The curriculum combines academic learning, life skills education, social-emotional growth, and creative expression through music, dance, painting, and crafts.

Children are taught daily living-skills and social behaviours. Considerable focus is given to fine motor and gross motor development. Yoga and physical education sessions boost coordination and overall health.

With ongoing improvements in teaching methods, learning materials, and digital tools—including smart TVs and tablets, the classrooms have become even more vibrant.

Progress is carefully tracked using formats from the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (formerly NIMH). Parents are engaged through regular meetings, and special behavioural challenges are addressed using psychosocial interventions and counselling support.

Vocational Training

The Vocational Training Centre of AMC is serving the purpose of occupational therapy and rehabilitation of adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
At the VTC, adolescents and young adults receive hands-on training in a variety of trades, including:

Each vocational path is tailored to the individual’s abilities and goals. Assessments monitor progress in cognitive skills, adaptive behaviours, independence, communication, and social competence—supporting vocational planning and program enhancement. Through this training, students build confidence, develop skills, and find a way to achieve economic independence.

Individuals with IDD learn when trained systematically, and perform well at repetitive tasks, which are routine, without day-to-day variation. They are comfortable in situations that are non-threatening to them and the situation does not demand problem solving every day.
AMC’s Vocational Training Centre is filling this need and contributing in this direction since 1973. This rehabilitation programme through vocational training has helped our children and youth in building confidence, developing self-esteem and overall feeling of empowerment.

Sheltered Workshop

The trainees who achieve moderate levels of skills at Pragati and are able to work under minimum supervision are given an opportunity to work at various sections at the sheltered workshop.

Free nutritious meals

Providing nutritious free meals is a vital initiative at AMC, that nurtures both their physical health and cognitive development. Many of these children and adults come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, making access to balanced, wholesome food a daily challenge.
Nutritious meals rich in essential vitamins, minerals, and proteins help strengthen their immunity, improve concentration, and support overall well-being. Beyond nourishment, such programs also foster inclusion and dignity, ensuring that these children feel cared for and valued. Investing in their nutrition is an investment in their potential, empowering them to learn, grow, and participate more fully in society.

Plant Nursery

In 2022, AMC initiated the Plant Nursery as a vocation for the young adults at AMC and an opportunity for training and which could translate into job opportunities. Gardening for those with special needs is a highly recommended occupation as it is therapeutic and helps in the development of fine motor skills and sensory processing. Repetitive tasks are enjoyed by these children and youth Being outdoors in a calming environment helps.

AMC plans to market these plants nurtured by out beneficiaries to hotels, corporates and the general public creating another revenue model and thereby enable a stipend to the beneficiaries.

Day Care Centre

A Day Care facility is maintained by AMC for individuals with severe IDD. They are looked after and cared by trained staff and engaged in occupational therapy like arranging the beads, sanding the wood, creating balls of yarn and watering plants.
